Explorer 5

Welcome to Explorer 5. We are a Key Stage 1 class. Vicky is our class teacher. Julie is the TA. Sophie and Emma are the ISAs.

Autumn 1:

Welcome to Explorer 5, we are so proud of how the children have settled into class and extend our welcome to the new children that are just starting their Sherbrook journey.

Topic

We have enjoyed getting to know the children and introduced them to the routines and areas within the school. This half term our topic is 'All about me' and we are enjoying exploring the topic in different ways. The children have enjoyed looking at themselves in the mirror, exploring their image as a jigsaw and through sensory play.

Maths
The focus in Maths is 'time'. We have focused on night and day, looking at activities and things that happen during the day and night. They have enjoyed water play (bathing a baby), washing our hands, using our sense of sight, touch, taste and smell when exploring breakfast cereals and hot chocolate.

English
The children have been enjoying our 'Space' themed sensory story. They have enjoyed listening to the story and having the opportunity to explore a range of sensory activities in the tuff trays and messy play. We have introduced Space theme pre-reader sheets and matching activities.

In phonics the children will continue to explore set 1 sounds and letters m,a,s,d,t.

In cookery we have had the opportunity to help pour, mix/stir, chop, serve and taste our creations of cakes, Angel Delight and apple crumble and custard.

Forest school
On Monday the children are enjoying Learning Outside the Classroom and visiting the outdoor Forest school area where they have been getting wet, muddy and messy. Please continue to ensure their waterproofs, wellies and change are clothes are in school on Monday.

Autumn 2:

The topic for this term is Starry Night 

Reminders:

  • Monday - Forest school, if your child is wearing their Forest school kit to school in a morning please ensure they have a spare coat  for lunch and break

    Thursday- PE

    Please ensure all clothing and personal items are labelled.
