Welcome to Explorer 5. We are a Key Stage 1 class. Tammy is our class teacher. Debbie is the TA. Natalie and Jemma are the ISAs.

Explorer 5 Staff

Autumn 1:

When we came back in September we spent the first couple of weeks enjoying lots of fun activities in/outdoors and exploring our sensory rooms. We spent time getting to know each other and getting used to our new class routines.

We will be reading the stories ‘The Family Book' by Todd Parr, ‘No Matter What We All Belong’ by Becky Davies and Fernando Martin, and ‘The Same But All Different’ by Karl Newson and Kate Kindley. We have been learning to label parts of the body and members of our family. We have also joined in with retelling the stories using puppets, explored small world activities, completed pencil control activities and fine motor activities with playdough.

In Maths, we have been focusing on time, including daytime and night-time. We have enjoyed exploring physical objects and taking part in activities to further understand what happens during the daytime and night-time.

Our Topic focus is ‘All about Me’ and ‘If you go into the Woods’ this half term. For our All about me topic have been looking at pictures of ourselves and matching them to our names and identifying who is in our family, using photographs from home to help us. For our ‘If you go into the Woods topic’ we will be enjoying our very own teddy bears picnic and understanding how to use cutlery to make sandwiches and different snacks to take along with us on our picnic.

We have also enjoyed our Forest School sessions, where we have made marks by squashing berries, enjoyed mud and water play and explored our outdoor classroom areas.

 

Autumn 2:

Next half term our Topic is ‘Winter Wonderland’.

Reminders:

• • Forest school is on a Wednesday, so please send a change of clothes incase your child gets wet or muddy.
  • PE is also on a Wednesday so please come into school in your PE kit.
  • Library books will be changed every Wednesday/Thursday, please ensure they are in your child’s bag.
  • Please send reading sheets and reading records back in every day. We try to ensure reading sheets are changed once a week.
  • Please label ALL of your child’s belongings.
