Welcome to Explorer 5. We are a Key Stage 1 class. Tammy is our class teacher. Debbie is the TA. Natalie and Jemma are the ISAs.

Explorer 5 Staff

Spring 1:

We have shared the texts ‘What’s it like in Winter’’, ‘Winter is here’ by Kevin Henkes, and ‘Ten Little Penguins’ by Mike Brownlow and Simon Rickerty. In English, our learning has been focused around following instructions and matching captions. We have also joined in with re-telling the stories using puppets, explored small world activities, completed pencil control activities and fine motor activities with playdough.

In Maths, we have been focusing on different concepts such as big and small, heavy and light and full and empty. We have enjoyed exploring concrete resources and have been able to identify big and small objects, used scales to show heavy or light and have used natural materials to fill and empty containers.

Our Topic focus has been very exciting, we have enjoyed learning all about ‘The Circus’ this half term. We have been completing a wide range of fun activities that take place in a Circus e.g. juggling, ring of fire, Tin Can Alley, tightrope walking and modelling balloons. We have enjoyed taking part in roleplay, painting, playdough and small world activities. This half term we have also engaged in themed days including Chinese New Year, Number Day and Kindness week.

We have enjoyed our Forest School sessions which have included using catapults, obstacle courses, playing in the snow and ice and enjoyed sand/mud play and explored our outdoor classroom/trim trail areas.

Spring 2:

Our Topic is ‘Paws, Claws and Whiskers’.

Reminders:

• Forest school is on a Wednesday, so please send a change of clothes incase your child gets wet or muddy.
• PE is also on a Wednesday so please come into school in your PE kit.
• Swimming is on a Thursday, please bring swimming kit labelled.
• Library books will be changed every Wednesday/Thursday, please ensure they are in your child’s bag.
• Please send reading sheets and reading records back in every day. We try to ensure reading sheets are changed once a week.
• Please label ALL of your child’s belongings.
