Overview of class

Welcome to Explorer 1. We are a mixed Early Years/ Year One class. Our Teachers are Jodi (Mon - Wed) and Michelle (Wed - Fri). Our Teaching assistant is Debbie. Natalie and Cheryl are our ISAs.

Autumn 1:

This half term we have been settling in to our new school, learning our daily routines and enjoying our time in Explorer 1.

This half term our topic has been ‘It’s good to be Me’. We have enjoyed exploring many activities including drawing ourselves using mirrors, painting with brushes and hands and the children have had opportunities to explore lots of sensory activities such as flour, icing sugar, cereal and porridge. We have enjoyed cooking sessions making faces from food, exploring the mixing of ingredients to make shortbread and tasting a variety of fruits and vegetables.

Explorer 1 have also enjoyed lots of craft activities at Forest School such as painting, waterplay, bubble blowing, washing clothes, making hedgehogs and exploring the outdoor Forest school area.

In maths we have been looking at time with the focus on day and night. The children have explored may different activities including matching day and night pictures, ordering day and night routines, exploring small world activities and roleplay, putting dolls to bed, feeding and dressing them.

In phonics we are looking at set 1 sounds focusing on letters m,a,s,d,t. The children are also working hard on using TOBIS, PECS and communication/ALD boards.

Autumn 2:

Our topic next half term is ‘Celebrations’ and we will be looking at exploring Diwali, Birthdays and Christmas.

Reminders:

Please remember to label all of your child’s belongings.

P.E is on Monday mornings, please come into school in PE clothes.

Forest School is on Tuesday morning, please come into school in clothes suitable for mucky play, puddle suit and wellies with a labelled change of clean clothes, including socks.

Library books will be changed weekly, please bring them in on a Wednesday so they can be changed.
