Staffordshire County Council SEN Transport Help

Parents and carers may bring and collect their child from school. We do ask parents and carers to inform us if there is any change to a family’s usual arrangements, such as a different family member collecting your child. Please be mindful of where you park near to school when bringing or collecting your child. See leaflets below.

Parking Near School

Think Before you Park

The Education Department may provide transport for your child’s journey to and from school, and in most cases, the transport will be supervised. The school transport is either by coach, minibus, or taxi, depending on established transport routes. In some cases it is shared with pupils from Hednesford Valley High School.

You are asked to take your child to the collection point and meet them after school.  (The transport escorts are not permitted to leave the vehicles to deliver pupils to individual homes.) It is your responsibility to inform the transport company should your child not need the transport (e.g. if they are absent from school) and to liaise with them if your child arrives in school by any other means or leaves school early.

Help and advice for schools and parents about walking, cycling, ‘park and stride’ is available here.

School Dinners

Children may have a school dinner or bring a packed lunch. School meals are cooked on site and the children are able to choose from the menu provided. The youngest children eat in the nursery class and the other children dine in the school hall. The children are supervised by their classroom staff and lunchtime supervisors. There is a set menu and pupils sit in small groups with staff, who serve their meal and help if the need arises. Staff also reinforce appropriate behaviour and table manners and encourage independence. Children may bring a packed lunch if they prefer.   Free school milk is provided for everyone.  Free fruit is provided to encourage younger pupils to eat healthy food. Pupils may bring in a healthy snack to eat at break time.

Communication

When your child begins school they have a Class Dojo account created which staff use to let you know about your child’s day at school and to send messages or information. (A paper home/school diary is available for those who are unable to access Class Dojo). In the same way you are encouraged to send messages into school using Class Dojo. You can, of course, also ring the school to discuss matters or provide information but please ring outside of lesson times if you wish to speak directly to classroom staff. We can also arrange individual meetings if they are required.  The school also uses text messaging to communicate with parents and send reminders about events. (It is not possible to reply to this service.)
